Introduction

Fumed Oak is a premium material that naturally and deeply changes the inherent color of White Oak through fuming treatment using ammonia vapor. In this process, the abundant tannin components in oak chemically react with ammonia, creating uniform and rich colors throughout the interior of the wood.

The color varies according to the tannin content of the wood and the ammonia exposure time, with higher tannin content and longer exposure time producing darker colors. The fuming treatment technology was developed in the late 19th century, inspired by the phenomenon where oak beams in stables gradually turned darker due to ammonia generated from animal waste.

It has since developed into a method for achieving luxurious natural colors throughout the wood industry, and is now actively utilized as a premium material by Europe's leading furniture brands.
